Devotions: Week of May 11, 2025

Day 1 – Monday, May 12, 2025

Jesus Is the Seed of Abraham
Scripture Reading: Galatians 3:16 (CSB)

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed, who is Christ.

Commentary:
From the very beginning, God promised a Redeemer. In Genesis 3:15, He declared that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head. Galatians 3:16 makes it clear—Jesus is that seed. He’s not one of many; He is the one. Jesus is the long-awaited fulfillment of every promise, the answer to every prophetic whisper, and the victor who triumphed over sin, Satan, and death.

Colossians 2:15 says Jesus “disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly.” His victory wasn’t symbolic—it was real. And now, through faith in Him, we share in that victory. But don’t let your guard down. Though Satan is defeated, he still strikes. Don’t flirt with sin. Don’t play with darkness. Walk in Christ’s triumph and stay alert.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you that Jesus is the promised seed of Abraham?
  2. Where do you see spiritual warfare in your life right now?
  3. Are you walking in the victory Christ already won, or still fighting in your own strength?
  4. What’s one “snake” you’ve let get too close?

Thought of the Day:
Jesus crushed the serpent’s head—don’t live like the enemy still owns the field.

Song: “Christ Is Risen” – Matt Maher

Quote from the Sermon:
“Even a headless snake can still do you harm. Satan is defeated—but he’s still dangerous.”

Prayer Focus:
Ask God to help you live alert and victorious in Christ, not afraid but not foolish—trusting in the finished work of Jesus.

Day 2 – Tuesday, May 13, 2025

Jesus Is the King of Israel
Scripture Reading: Luke 1:32 (CSB)

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.

Commentary:
When Gabriel announced Jesus’ birth to Mary, he wasn’t just announcing a baby—he was announcing a King. A King in the line of David. A King who would reign forever. This was the fulfillment of a promise God made in 2 Samuel 7, and it declared loudly: Jesus is not just our Savior—He is our Sovereign.

But is He truly King in your life? A king isn’t someone you just admire. A king is someone you submit to. Jesus is the eternal King who leads His people into life, and His throne isn’t just in heaven—it’s meant to rule your heart, your choices, and your daily life.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What areas of your life still resist the reign of Jesus?
  2. Do you honor Jesus more as Savior or as King?
  3. What does it look like to live under the rule of Christ today?
  4. How can your life declare to others that Jesus is King?

Thought of the Day:
Jesus isn’t just comforting—He’s commanding. He rules with love and reigns in power.

Song: “King of Kings” – Shane & Shane

Quote from the Sermon:
“He’s the King who conquers death. Jesus is the King. And He reigns forever.”

Prayer Focus:
Pray for a heart that bows to King Jesus—surrendering control and trusting His rule in every area of life.

Day 3 – Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Jesus Is the Savior
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 5:7 (CSB)

For Christ our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

Commentary:
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Just like the blood on the doorposts in Exodus, His blood covers us from judgment. The power isn’t in our behavior—it’s in His blood. God doesn’t “pass over” because we’re good; He passes over because Jesus is enough.

Your past can’t disqualify you. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word. You may feel like you’re too broken, too guilty, or too far gone—but Jesus says: “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Rest in that. Live in that.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do you trust the blood of Jesus more than your ability to be “good”?
  2. What shame or sin do you need to surrender at the cross?
  3. Have you truly received Jesus as your Savior—not just in word, but in trust?
  4. How can you extend that same grace to others today?

Thought of the Day:
You don’t have to be perfect—you just have to be covered by the blood.

Song: “Nothing But the Blood” – CityAlight

Quote from the Sermon:
“When I see the blood of My Son… I will pass over you.”

Prayer Focus:
Thank Jesus for being your Savior. Confess your trust in His finished work and walk in the freedom of being fully forgiven.

Day 4 – Thursday, May 15, 2025

Jesus Is the True Temple
Scripture Reading: John 1:14 (CSB)

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Commentary:
Jesus is where God meets man. He didn’t just teach truth—He was the truth. He didn’t just point to a temple—He was the Temple. In Jesus, the fullness of God dwelled bodily. The Old Testament sacrifices and priesthood pointed to Him. And now, through Him, we have access to the Father.

You don’t have to go to a sacred building or climb a spiritual ladder. Jesus is the access point. He’s your Temple, your Priest, your sacrifice. You can meet God right where you are—because Jesus came all the way to you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does knowing Jesus is your access to God change your daily walk?
  2. Are you trying to earn what Jesus already made possible?
  3. What would it look like to “tabernacle” with God today?
  4. Do you rest in His presence—or do you rush through it?

Thought of the Day:
Jesus didn’t just bring you to God—He became your meeting place with Him.

Song: “Before the Throne of God Above” – Shane & Shane

Quote from the Sermon:
“Whatever you do, don’t miss this—Jesus is our meeting place with God.”

Prayer Focus:
Ask the Lord to make you more aware of His presence through Christ, and to help you draw near confidently and joyfully.

Day 5 – Friday, May 16, 2025

Jesus Fulfilled the Law
Scripture Reading: Romans 10:4 (CSB)

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Commentary:
The Law was never meant to save us. It was meant to point us to Jesus. All of the rules, rituals, and sacrifices were road signs that led straight to the cross. Jesus fulfilled the Law—perfectly. And at the cross, He took its curse on Himself so that we could be free.

Now we don’t live under pressure—we live under promise. We’re not performing to get God’s love—we’re responding because we already have it. Jesus didn’t just pay your debt. He wrote you into the family. Adopted. Forgiven. Loved. That’s the Gospel.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Are you living in freedom—or still trying to earn what Jesus already paid for?
  2. What “rules-based” thinking do you need to unlearn?
  3. How does the Gospel reshape how you serve, love, and live?
  4. Who do you know that needs to hear the freedom Jesus offers?

Thought of the Day:
You’re not on probation. You’ve been adopted. Walk in the freedom Jesus secured.

Song: “Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me” – CityAlight

Quote from the Sermon:
“You’re not fighting to be accepted—you already are. You belong to Him. So live like it.”

Prayer Focus:
Thank God that you are no longer under the Law but under grace. Ask for joy-filled obedience that flows from love, not fear.
