Palm Sunday
Day 1: The Lord Needs It
Scripture Reading: Mark 11:1–3
Commentary
Jesus sends two disciples with precise instructions to retrieve a colt that no one has ever ridden. It’s a strange request, but one that speaks volumes. First, it shows His divine authority—He knows exactly where the colt is and what will happen when they go. Second, it reminds us that everything belongs to Him, even things we think are ours. “The Lord needs it” is not a suggestion—it’s a summons.
The disciples obeyed without delay. And the owners let go of the colt simply because “the Lord needs it.” What if we lived like that? What if we were that quick to release what we hold onto when God calls? Jesus isn’t looking for the impressive or broken-in—He’s looking for what’s available and surrendered.
Reflection Questions
- What is Jesus asking you to release to Him today?
- Do you trust His instructions, even when they don’t make sense?
- What in your life feels “tied up” that needs to be offered to Jesus?
- How are you responding when you hear, “The Lord needs it”?
Thought of the Day: Obedience often begins with surrendering what we think belongs to us.
Song: “Have It All” – Brandon Lake
Quote from the Sermon: “He saw us in our brokenness and had mercy. That’s the kind of King He is.”
Prayer Focus: Ask the Lord to give you a heart that quickly obeys when He calls—no delay, no excuses, just trust.
Day 2: Ordinary Obedience, Eternal Impact
Scripture Reading: Mark 11:4–6
Commentary
The disciples did what Jesus said, and just like He promised, it worked out. They found the colt, untied it, got questioned, and gave the response Jesus told them to give—and that was enough. Sometimes we overcomplicate obedience, but here’s the truth: simple, faithful obedience makes room for God’s greater plan.
There’s no dramatic miracle here—just people trusting Jesus and doing what He said. And yet, their small task played a role in fulfilling centuries-old prophecy. That’s what God does. He takes ordinary faithfulness and ties it into His eternal story.
Reflection Questions
- What “ordinary” acts of obedience is God calling you to today?
- How does this story challenge your view of significance in God’s Kingdom?
- Have you ever looked back and seen how a small act of faith impacted others?
- Where might God be calling you to trust the outcome to Him?
Thought of the Day: God’s plans are often fulfilled through people who quietly obey.
Song: “Build My Life” – Pat Barrett
Quote from the Sermon: “We don’t praise Him in confusion—we praise Him with conviction.”
Prayer Focus: Pray for courage to obey Jesus in the small things, trusting He’s doing something far bigger than you can see.
Day 3: He Sat on It
Scripture Reading: Mark 11:7
Commentary
They brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it. That seems insignificant until you realize—this is the moment the King mounts His ride into Jerusalem. He’s not riding a warhorse. He’s not armed. He’s coming in humility, yet with full authority. Jesus deliberately fulfills Zechariah 9:9—bringing peace, not political conquest.
In a world obsessed with power and image, Jesus chooses lowliness. And in doing so, He reveals what true strength looks like—meekness, purpose, and submission to the Father. This verse reminds us that God’s path is rarely what we expect, but it’s always what we need.
Reflection Questions
- Why is it significant that Jesus rode a colt instead of a warhorse?
- What does this tell you about the nature of Jesus’ kingship?
- How do you view humility—strength or weakness?
- What might God be calling you to do that goes against cultural expectations?
Thought of the Day: The King who comes low is the one who lifts us up.
Song: “King of Kings” – Maverick City Music (feat. Naomi Raine)
Quote from the Sermon: “Jesus rode in not to conquer Rome, but to conquer death—for you and me.”
Prayer Focus: Ask God to shape your heart to reflect Christ’s humility, even in moments where power or pride are tempting.
Day 4: A Street Paved with Praise
Scripture Reading: Mark 11:8
Commentary
Many people spread their clothes and branches on the road—a spontaneous red carpet of worship. This wasn’t about pageantry—it was an act of reverence. They were honoring Jesus the best way they knew how. Even if their understanding of Him wasn’t perfect, their praise was real.
What about us? We have even more reason to worship. We’ve seen the cross and the resurrection. We don’t have to wonder if He’s the King—we know He is. So how are we preparing the way for Him in our lives? What are we laying down? Our worship is not about perfection—it’s about giving Him our whole hearts.
Reflection Questions
- What are you laying down before Jesus in worship right now?
- Are there parts of your heart still holding back?
- What would it look like to prepare a path of praise in your daily life?
- How has seeing the full story of Jesus deepened your worship?
Thought of the Day: Worship prepares the way for the King to be seen.
Song: “Jesus Is Worthy” – Shane & Shane
Quote from the Sermon: “We praise Him because He’s been better to us than we deserve.”
Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you worship Him with an undivided heart—laying down distractions, pride, or fear at His feet.
Day 5: Hosanna With Conviction
Scripture Reading: Mark 11:9
Commentary
“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”—this is the cry of Palm Sunday. Originally, “Hosanna” meant “save us now,” and on that day, it was both a cry for help and a shout of hope. Some shouted it in desperation. Some in confusion. But we shout it today in victory.
We know what they didn’t. We know the cross was coming, and we know the tomb would be empty. So our “Hosanna” isn’t just a wish—it’s worship. We don’t praise a King we hope will save us—we praise the King who already has.
Reflection Questions
- What does “Hosanna” mean to you today?
- How has Jesus saved you personally?
- What is one reason you can praise Jesus today with conviction?
- Who in your life needs to hear your Hosanna story?
Thought of the Day: Don’t just wave the branch—lift up your voice with conviction.
Song: “Hosanna” – Andrew Peterson
Quote from the Sermon: “Now that we’ve tasted His grace, we can’t stay quiet.”
Prayer Focus: Spend time praising Jesus for who He is, what He’s done, and what He’s still doing. Pray for boldness to lift your Hosanna with your life.
