Devotions: Week of March 2, 2025

Day 1: Adopting Jesus’ Attitude

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:5-8 (CSB)

“Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead, he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.”

Commentary

We live in a world obsessed with self-promotion—building a brand, gaining recognition, and proving our worth. But Jesus showed us a different way. Though He was fully God, He humbled Himself, taking on human form and serving others. He didn’t cling to His rightful status but emptied Himself for the sake of those He came to save.

This is the mindset we are called to adopt—one of humility, selflessness, and obedience. Instead of seeking applause, we seek to glorify God. Instead of demanding recognition, we serve. Instead of striving for power, we surrender to God’s will. This is the key to unlocking true joy in a self-obsessed world.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what ways do you struggle with pride or self-promotion?
  2. How does Jesus’ example of humility challenge your daily attitude?
  3. What are some practical ways you can “empty yourself” in service to others?
  4. Is there an area in your life where God is calling you to deeper obedience?

Thought of the Day

True greatness isn’t found in self-exaltation but in self-emptying for God’s glory.

Song Recommendation

“Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me” – CityAlight

Quote for Reflection

“To reject this mindset isn’t just failing to act like Christ; it’s refusing to live as who we were meant to be.”

Prayer Focus

Ask God to help you adopt the attitude of Christ. Pray for humility, a heart of service, and the willingness to obey even when it costs you.

Day 2: Living Out What God Works In You

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:12-13 (CSB)

“Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.”

Commentary

Following Jesus isn’t just about believing the right things—it’s about living them out. Paul tells us to “work out” our salvation, meaning we actively walk in obedience, not just when people are watching, but at all times. Yet, this isn’t something we do alone. God is the one working in us, changing our desires and empowering us to live for Him.

Spiritual growth happens when we cooperate with God’s work in our lives. That means daily surrender, intentional discipleship, and commitment to living according to His Word. The world needs to see believers who don’t just talk about Jesus but reflect Him in every aspect of life.

Reflection Questions

  1. Are you living out your faith daily, or just when others are watching?
  2. How do you see God at work in your life, shaping your desires?
  3. What area of your life needs to be brought into alignment with God’s will?
  4. How can you encourage someone else to grow in their faith?

Thought of the Day

Obedience isn’t just about rules—it’s about aligning your heart with God’s purpose.

Song Recommendation

“Take My Life and Let It Be” – Chris Tomlin

Quote for Reflection

“Live out what He’s working in you. Your actions should align with the new person He’s creating in you.”

Prayer Focus

Pray for the strength to live out your faith daily. Ask God to transform your desires so that you love and obey Him more.

Day 3: Shining Brightly in a Dark World

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:14-16 (CSB)

“Do everything without grumbling and arguing, so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world, by holding firm to the word of life.”

Commentary

Complaining and arguing can dim our witness to the world. When we constantly grumble, we blend into a culture of negativity rather than standing out as people of joy. Paul challenges us to shine like stars—to live in such a way that people see the light of Jesus in us.

But how do we shine? By holding firm to the Word of Life—staying rooted in Scripture and allowing it to shape our attitudes and actions. When we reflect Jesus’ joy, love, and peace, people are drawn to the Gospel.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do you tend to complain or argue more than you should?
  2. How does your attitude affect your witness to others?
  3. What practical steps can you take to “hold firm to the word of life”?
  4. How can your life reflect the joy of Christ in a dark world?

Thought of the Day

A life filled with joy and gratitude stands out in a world full of negativity.

Song Recommendation

“This Little Light of Mine” – Addison Road

Quote for Reflection

“Be a star. Let your light in Christ shine. Help people see their need for the Gospel and the beauty of a church family that loves them.”

Prayer Focus

Ask God to help you shine brightly for Him. Pray that your words and actions reflect His light to those around you.

Day 4: Rejoicing in Being Poured Out for God

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:16b-18 (CSB)

“Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing. But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. In the same way, you should also be glad and rejoice with me.”

Commentary

Paul saw his life as an offering to God. He wasn’t concerned about his comfort or status—his joy came from seeing others grow in their faith. He calls us to embrace the same mindset. Serving others isn’t a burden; it’s a privilege.

We unlock true joy when we stop focusing on ourselves and pour our lives out for God’s glory. Instead of asking, “What can I get?” we start asking, “What can I give?” That’s where real joy is found.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do you see serving others as a burden or a privilege?
  2. How can you pour yourself out for God’s glory this week?
  3. Who in your life needs encouragement or help?
  4. How does sacrificial service deepen your joy in Christ?

Thought of the Day

True joy is found in giving, not getting.

Song Recommendation

“Make Me a Servant” – Maranatha! Music

Quote for Reflection

“True joy isn’t found in what we do for ourselves. It’s found in getting to serve other people.”

Prayer Focus

Ask God to give you a heart that delights in serving others. Pray for opportunities to pour yourself out for His glory.
