Living for God’s kingdom in a temporary world
Day 1: Pursuing Christian Perfection
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:12 (CSB): “Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.”
Commentary
Paul acknowledges that he hasn’t reached perfection, highlighting the ongoing journey of sanctification. Just as Jesus’ righteousness is imputed to us at salvation, we must continually strive to reflect Him in our lives. This isn’t a call to achieve perfection out of our strength but rather an invitation to embrace the process of becoming like Christ, submitting our lives to His ongoing work within us.
Paul’s imagery of straining toward the goal emphasizes commitment and perseverance. As with any lifelong pursuit, becoming more like Jesus requires regular engagement with spiritual disciplines and surrendering to the Holy Spirit’s transforming power. We are called to actively participate in this divine process, knowing that ultimate perfection will be realized in eternity.
Reflection Questions
- How do you currently pursue becoming more like Christ in your daily life?
- What spiritual disciplines could you integrate more consistently to aid in your sanctification journey?
- How can you remind yourself that perfection is a lifelong process that is completed in heaven?
- In what ways does the Holy Spirit empower you to grow in Christlikeness?
Thought of the Day
Christian perfection is about the journey, not a destination we reach on our own.
Song: “I Will Offer Up My Life” by Matt Redman
Prayer Focus
Pray for an increase in commitment to your sanctification journey, asking the Holy Spirit to highlight areas requiring growth and asking for the strength to press on toward God’s goal for your life.
Day 2: Releasing the Past and Embracing the Future
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:13-14 (CSB): “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.”
Commentary
Paul reminds us of the importance of letting go of the past—whether past failures or successes—to fully embrace the future God has in store. Clinging to the old can hinder our journey toward spiritual maturity. Our achievements and mistakes are learning steps; they should not define us or determine our future.
In Christ, we are called to press forward, focusing on the prize of God’s heavenly call. This involves trusting that God’s plans surpass any earthly aspirations. Releasing the past doesn’t mean neglecting its lessons but choosing not to let it control our lives, freeing us to strive toward the destiny God has prepared.
Reflection Questions
- What are some past things that you find difficult to let go of?
- How has God used past failures or successes to shape your spiritual journey?
- What might God be calling you toward that requires letting go of the past?
- How can you cultivate trust in God for your future plans and hopes?
Thought of the Day
The future God has for you is greater than anything in the past—release and reach for His promises.

Prayer Focus
Ask God for the strength to release past burdens and the courage to run toward the new life He has prepared, embracing His future for you in Christ.
Day 3: Living the Truth We Know
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:16 (CSB): “In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.”
Commentary
Here, Paul encourages believers to live up to the spiritual truths they have already received. This requires an ongoing commitment to apply these truths in our lives. It’s not about how much we know, but how faithfully we live out what we understand. Our spiritual growth is measured by our obedience to the truth, not just intellectual assent.
The dangers of falling into the traps of either arrogant knowledge without application or ignorance leading to spiritual stagnation are real. As we learn more about God and His Word, our responsibility is to embody those truths through our actions and decisions, ensuring that our lives reflect our beliefs.
Reflection Questions
- What biblical truths have significantly impacted your life recently?
- In which areas of your life do you find it challenging to apply the truths you know?
- How can you increase your understanding of God’s Word and integrate it into your daily life?
- What steps can you take to avoid the pitfalls of prideful knowledge or spiritual laziness?
Thought of the Day
True wisdom is demonstrated not by how much we know but by how well we live out the truth.

Prayer Focus
Pray for discernment and strength to apply scriptural truths in every aspect of life, seeking to reflect God’s wisdom and love in actions and words.
Day 4: Following Authentic Examples
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:17-19 (CSB): “Join in imitating me, brothers and sisters, and pay careful attention to those who live according to the example you have in us.”
Commentary
Paul calls believers to observe and imitate godly examples, emphasizing the importance of fellowship and discipleship in spiritual growth. Authentic examples are those who consistently live out their faith, facing daily challenges while remaining true to God’s Word. As believers, it’s crucial to discern genuine leaders and role models who embody Christlike qualities.
It’s also an invitation to self-reflection: are we the kind of believers who others can look up to? Our lives are testimonies to God’s work within us, and we must be mindful of what we model for others. True leadership is rooted in humility and authenticity, aligning our actions with our faith principles.
Reflection Questions
- Who are the authentic Christian role models in your life, and what qualities do they demonstrate?
- How can you discern authenticity in those you choose to follow?
- In what areas do you feel called to grow as a disciple and potential role model for others?
- Are there aspects of your life that could better reflect Christ to those around you?
Thought of the Day
Authentic faith is seen in those who live it sincerely, inviting others to journey alongside them.

Ask God to reveal genuine role models who can guide your spiritual journey and to help you be a Christlike example to others.
Day 5: Yearning for Eternal Fulfillment
Scripture Reading
Philippians 3:20-21 (CSB): “Our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly wait for a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body, by the power that enables Him to subject everything to Himself.”
Commentary
These verses remind us of our ultimate identity and hope as followers of Christ. Our citizenship is not of this world but of heaven, offering us a future filled with promise and transformation. The anticipation of our glorified bodies points to a time when all earthly suffering and limitations will be lifted, allowing us to experience fullness in God’s presence.
This hope should fuel our daily lives, prompting us to live not for momentary pleasures but for eternal fulfillment. As we wait eagerly for Christ’s return, we are encouraged to persevere through trials, confident in the transformative power that awaits us. This anticipation cultivates a deeper worship and connection with God, as we look forward to His redemption plan being fully realized.
Reflection Questions
- How does knowing your citizenship is in heaven impact your perspective on earthly life?
- What are you most looking forward to about eternity with God?
- How can you live in eager anticipation of Christ’s return in your daily choices and priorities?
- What steps can you take to align your earthly pursuits with eternal values?
